Transporting dangerous goods in the oil and gas industry in the Middle East can present challenges. The region has rugged terrain and there are inherent risks in handling hazardous materials.
Imagine a tanker truck navigating a journey through winding roads in Oman carrying flammable liquids. Without the correct driver training, an incident may be more likely to occur. And this incident could have devastating consequences. Including loss of life, environmental damage, and economic impacts. This highlights the need for elevated safety standards.
Recognizing these challenges, RTITB Middle East has launched a new Carriage of Dangerous Goods Driver Training suite, in strategic partnership with the Oman Energy Association (OPAL).
The new training suite is focused on instilling confidence, competence, and safe behavior in LGV/HGV drivers. While at the same time maintaining compliance and company standards. Using this training suite will help companies deliver consistent training to all dangerous goods drivers. This may lead to measurable safety improvements. And help keep drivers and those around them safe.
Comprehensive Training for Diverse Needs
The high quality content of the Carriage of Dangerous Goods Driver Training suite caters to the oil and gas sector specifically. It includes two courses:
1. Driver of Dangerous Goods – Packaging and Bulk
Do you have drivers transporting hazardous liquids in drums and IBC? Or travelling with bulk loads of minerals or chemicals? This 24-hour (3-day) course is an ideal solution for teaching drivers the essential skills for safe transportation.
It helps drivers understand areas such as the general requirements for the carriage of dangerous goods, environmental protection, driver responsibilities, and emergency response procedures.
The course culminates in a 75-question multiple-choice exam. Successful candidates receive an RTITB Accredited Dangerous Goods Driver (Packaging and Bulk) certificate, valid for three years.
2. Driver of Dangerous Goods – Tanker
A tanker filled with hazardous liquids, such as oil, liquid gas, or refined petroleum has the potential to cause a catastrophic incident. Imagine how dangerous it is for a driver to maneuver a tanker like this on a busy highway? Reduce risks with this 32-hour (4-day) course.
This training covers everything in the Packaging and Bulk course. Then extends to look at the carriage of dangerous goods in tanks. It covers additional provisions specific to tank operations. Including the behavior of tank vehicles on the road and the procedures for filling and discharging tanks.
The course concludes with a 95-question multiple-choice exam. Successful candidates earn an RTITB Accredited Dangerous Goods Driver (Tanker) certificate, valid for three years.
Both courses aim to help companies adopt a culture of safety. They ensure that only those who meet high standards during rigorous assessment receive the internationally renowned RTITB certification.
