Employers in the logistics and transport industry are facing a tough time with a shortage of drivers. In fact, the Road Haulage Association (RHA) has highlighted the urgent need for 40,000 LGV/HGV drivers every year to keep things running smoothly. Drivers returning to the industry are part of the solution.
Return to Driving – Driver CPC training
RTITB’s new ‘Return to Driving’ Driver CPC Periodic Training module makes it easier than ever to safely reintegrate experienced drivers who’ve been away from the industry.
The new module is ideal for drivers whose CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) expired more than 60 days ago but less than two years ago. In line with latest DVSA updates, these drivers will be able to resume driving in the UK following completion of this new 7-hour module.
Versions of the training are available for both LGV/HGV and Bus/Coach (PCV/PSV). The new module includes tailored topics to support driver safety, confidence, and compliance. It includes materials consistent with the existing high-quality Driver CPC course suite.
This new module will help employers fill vacant driver positions in an efficient way, preventing operational disruption. Once your drivers have completed this module, they can begin driving again in the UK straight away. They just need to complete the remaining 28 hours of International or National Driver CPC training within 12 months.

National Driver CPC (N-DCPC) Modules – launching 1st May
The DVSA’s introduction of National Driver CPC provided new training guidelines for bus/coach and LGV/HGV drivers that are only working within the UK. These drivers have the option to complete modules in 3.5 hours instead of seven hours.
New RTITB National Driver CPC modules will soon be available for UK drivers, with a focus on boosting efficiency and safety. Without sacrificing any content quality, these courses can be completed in 3.5 hours.
This gives employers greater flexibility. The 3.5-hour training blocks do not need to run on consecutive days. This helps keep more drivers on the roster to keep deliveries moving. It means fewer extended periods away from work needs to be factored in for Driver CPC training. Yet there is no compromise when it comes to supporting safety and compliance, as all the key training topics are still covered.
RTITB Driver CPC Consortium members will also have a new, easy-to-use course selector, enabling companies and trainers to choose the right content for drivers. Selecting the topics that will help support business objectives, address potential issues, or deliver measurable results. Get in touch to make sure the National Driver CPC modules are added to your membership.
