GHI Survey Reveals Severe Ground Handling Skills Shortage

The Ground Handling International (GHI) Skills Survey 2020 has revealed that ground handling skills shortages are worsening and compromising safety at European airports. 

100+ aviation business leaders took part in the Skills Survey, and almost 80% of operators reported a skills shortage, up 25% since the 2017 survey. It was also revealed that 77% having suffered a lost time accident or near miss as a direct result of ground handling skills shortage. 

Ramp operatives were cited as one of the hardest positions to fill, with poor pay being considered a key factor.
