‘We were drawn to RTITB partly due to its reputation as a well-established and consistent organisation. We have had some positive feedback from Instructors and Senior Assessors that have been trained by the RTITB Instructor Academy about the training courses, saying that they were very professionally run and the content was very relevant. Our ambition is to make sure that the rest of the business doesn’t miss out on the opportunities available, in terms of training programmes and training materials.’

PAUL ELLIS, HEAD OF TRANSPORT, UNIPART NHS SUPPLY CHAIN.

BENEFITS OF TRAINING WITH THE RTITB INSTRUCTOR ACADEMY:

  • With qualified Driver CPC Instructors in house, Unipart NHS Supply Chain Operations can deliver training to its 300 LGV/HGV drivers
internally, on its own premises and around its own schedule, providing complete training flexibility.
  • The RTITB Instructor Academy is completely focused on delivering workplace transport ‘train-the-trainer’ and assessor courses, with
Instructors who all come with years of real-world transport and logistics experience, which helps keep training relevant and focused.
  • All candidates on RTITB Instructor Academy courses must complete an independent, internationally recognised examination to become a
qualified RTITB/NRI Instructor, which helps to keep standards high and supports compliance.

  • RTITB Instructor Academy has a wide range of Instructor and Assessor courses, with both practical and theory elements, which will
support Unipart NHS Supply Chain Operations when the time comes to update training for its warehouse operation and across other
    parts of the business.
  • All Instructor and Assessor courses are designed to help transport and logistics businesses to achieve the measurable benefits of
delivering the right training, from cutting costs to improving safety.
  • The RTITB Instructor Academy approach to training is about confidence as well as competence. Being an Instructor is about more than
just ‘knowing your stuff’, so its courses coach candidates in the skills and knowledge they will really need to deliver exceptional workplace
    transport training.

WHAT UNIPART NHS SUPPLY CHAIN OPERATION HAS ACHIEVED WITH TRAINING FROM THE RTITB INSTRUCTOR ACADEMY:

  • Unipart NHS Supply Chain Operation has begun to successfully upskill over 20 existing Driver CPC Instructors and LGV Assessors
to maintain consistent high standards of training and management across multiple sites. The LGV Assessors also ensure high
    quality driver standards are maintained.
  • Standardised training can now be delivered across the company’s seven distribution centres around England.
  • With help from the RTITB Instructor Academy, Unipart NHS Supply Chain Operations has been able to develop relevant and
engaging training materials, which Instructors enjoy delivering, and which have been very well received by the training
    candidates.
  • Thanks to the quality training, the operation has implemented various new processes, to help modernise the way the NHS supply
chain operates, moving away from public sector systems that have been used for 20+ years.

  • The new training materials have helped to bring the NHS Supply chain operation up to date, as they are more up to date and
relevant to the Instructors, and the LGV drivers they train.
  • Working with the RTITB Instructor Academy has given the business an opportunity to empower and train its people in line
with its strategic business plan for 2023/24 to improve performance, by supporting and developing transport and warehouse
    operations.
  • With support from RTITB Instructor Academy in providing Driver CPC Instructor courses and driver training materials for qualified
Instructors to use, Unipart NHS Supply Chain Operations is succeeding in getting its employees to the next level of training and
    competency.
  • The recognised, standardised LGV Assessor qualification broadens trainees’ skillset and knowledge, in turn, this helps to ensure a
high standard of skill and professionalism in drivers.

THE CHALLENGE

To modernise the training and management of LGV/HGV drivers as part of a move to replace legacy systems, while upskilling employees and ensuring high driver and driver training standards.

RTITB Instructor Training:

Unipart NHS Supply Chain Operation has been using the RTITB Instructor Academy for Driver CPC Instructor training and LGV Assessor
training since September 2022 and will continue using the RTITB developed training materials to train LGV/HGV drivers in-house.
The operation plans to engage the RTITB Instructor Academy to deliver further Instructor training to upskill some employees in its
warehouse operation and, potentially across other parts of the Unipart Logistics company.
