Yardshunter Instructor Training

The course provides candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver yardshunter training courses in a safe, effective and efficient manner. The course is suitable for delivery on tractor units or tug masters with a trailer. 

Delivered by the UK’s best Instructors, who all come with real world transport and logistics experience, we provide the highest quality RTITB Instructor training courses.  Plus, to give you total peace of mind, all candidates must successfully complete an independent examination to qualify as an RTITB Instructor.

By the end of the course candidates will:

  • Be able to plan and deliver safe yard shunter training
  • Be able to recall and discuss the role and responsibilities of an instructor

Please note: this course does not teach candidates to shunt vehicles.

This course is suitable for candidates who:

  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Have a minimum of B entitlement on their driving licence
  • Significant experience of shunting
  • Have prior training in instructing (if they do not the course duration may need to be extended to cover instructional techniques)

Please note that candidates will only be eligible to instruct shunting on vehicles that they have prior experience operating.

Overview

The course provides candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver yardshunter training courses in a safe, effective and efficient manner. The course is suitable for delivery on tractor units or tug masters with a trailer. 

The Yardshunter Instructor course concludes with an objective examination carried out by an RTITB examiner. All elements of the examination must be passed in order to successfully qualify as an RTITB Yardshunter instructor. Achieving an RTITB instructor qualification is something to be truly proud of. Successful candidates are eligible to register on the RTITB Register of Professional Instructors

  • Theory of Articulation
  • Forward Manoeuvres
  • Reverse manoeuvres
  • Loading Docks
  • Open and confined areas

And concludes with a 3 part examination:

  • Theory test covering yard shunting best practice and regulations plus instructional techniques
  • Practical lesson delivery
  • Classroom lesson delivery
