COVID-19 UPDATE: RTITB Instructor Academy

News | 10th Dec 2021

UPDATED: 10 DECEMBER 2021

We would like to reassure our customers that the RTITB Instructor Academy will be staying open, unless we are explicitly instructed to close.

The practical Instructor training that we provide at the Academy is a critical part of an Instructor’s education and qualification and it cannot be done from home. We have multiple COVID-secure measures in place to protect our training candidates including regular cleaning, mandatory face coverings and all instructors taking lateral flow tests everyday.

However, we are continuing to offer remote theory training as an option, so that in-person, face-to-face training time can be minimised, and risks can be reduced as far as possible. These are live courses with an experienced trained in a virtual classroom and have proven popular in recent months. We are also able to offer full Driver CPC Instructor courses on a fully remote basis.

Please contact us to discuss how we can help you with remote courses. You can also reach our team on +44 (0)1952 520214.

We expect the coming weeks to be very busy as people may look to rework planned training schedules or switch to remote theory courses, so we appreciate your patience and reassure you that we will respond to any enquiries as quickly as we can. Thanks for your ongoing support during these ever-changing times.

Driver CPC Instructor Courses

UPDATED: 23 DECEMBER 2020

Following the recent announcements about Tier/Level 4 areas,  we are expecting further Tier/Level 4 announcements over the coming days/weeks. In preparation for this, the position for each of our Instructor courses is outlined below. If the course you are attending/interested in is not shown please contact us for further information.

The RTITB Instructor Academy is currently located in a Tier 3 area. If we move to a Tier 4, we will be staying open to provide necessary training services. We are able to provide covid secure training at our centre in Telford, Shropshire and on your premises subject to a satisfactory review of your covid protocols, systems of work and risk assessments.

Lift Truck Instructor Courses

The HSE has made clear that essential/urgent training can and should continue. You will therefore need to determine if the instructor training you are proposing to attend is essential/urgent. If you deem it essential/urgent we are able to provide a covid secure environment for your training to take place and you can attend as scheduled.

As per the HSE guidance you should also consider how you can reduce face to face contact, for example we offer the option of attending 2 days remote theory training prior to attending an 8 day practical course – reducing the required in-person training time by 20%. If you would like to know more about this option please contact us.

The HSE has advised that workers engaged in necessary training activities may travel:

  • within a Tier 4 area
  • out of a Tier 4 area
  • to a Tier 4 area from a Tier 1, 2, or 3 area

LGV Instructor/ LGV Assessor/Fleet Instructor Courses

The DVSA has advised that in-vehicle training must not take place in Tier 4 areas, that we must not travel to deliver in-vehicle training in a Tier 4 area, nor should people travel out of a Tier 4 area to attend in-vehicle training. Therefore if we are coming to you to deliver training and your area is moved to Tier 4 or you are coming to the Academy and it is moved to Tier 4 your course will be postponed and we will contact you to re-arrange.

We do offer the option of attending remote theory training prior to attending the practical course – reducing the required in-person training time and allowing part of the training to continue. If you would like to know more about this option please contact us at academy@rtitb.com.

Driver CPC Instructor Courses

Our Driver CPC Instructor Courses can be delivered fully remotely via video link. Therefore if we are coming to you to deliver Driver CPC Instructor training and your area is moved to Tier 4 or you are coming to the Academy and it is moved to Tier 4 we will contact you to move the course to full remote delivery or to postpone the training (whichever you prefer).

Yardshunter/Banksman Instructor Courses

A large part of these courses are delivered outside and do not take place in-vehicle. Therefore this training (if deemed essential/urgent) can continue. You will need to determine if the training you are proposing to attend is essential/urgent. If you deem it essential/urgent we are able to provide a covid secure environment for your training to take place and you can attend as scheduled.

UPDATED:  2 DECEMBER 2020

As of Wednesday 2nd December, a local restriction tier system was put into place. Unsure what this means for you and your business? This can differ widely depending on where you are in the UK and the current R rate. Find out more on the Government’s website.

Christmas and New Year opening hours

The RTITB Instructor Academy will close at 3.30pm on 23rd December and will reopen at 9am on 4th January.

Though restrictions for January 2021 onwards are not yet confirmed, the RTITB Instructor Academy intends to remain open if Government guidelines permit. We believe it is vital for safety to continue to offer all courses, albeit in a Covid-secure or remote online manner. We will be keeping fully informed on HSE guidance and Government restrictions and will update customers as we hear any further developments.

Thank you for your ongoing patience and support.

UPDATED: 2 NOVEMBER 2020

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a second UK national lockdown commencing on 5th November 2020 for four weeks, we would like to reassure our customers that the RTITB Instructor Academy will be staying open, unless the Government or HSE (Health and Safety Executive) explicitly instruct us to close.

Those working in transport and logistics Instructor roles are even more vital during lockdown. We believe that providing these keyworkers with training in a COVID-secure environment is an essential part of ensuring that safe and compliant practices can continue.

The practical Instructor training that we provide at the Academy is a critical part of an Instructor’s education and qualification and it cannot be done from home. Therefore, this important training can, and must, continue. We have multiple COVID-secure measures in place to protect our practical training candidates.

Please contact us to discuss how we can help your training continue with our remote courses. You can also reach our team on +44 (0)1952 520214.

We expect the coming weeks to be very busy as people may look to rework planned training schedules or switch to remote theory courses, so we appreciate your patience and reassure you that we will respond to any enquiries as quickly as we can. Thanks for your ongoing support during these ever-changing circumstances.

UPDATED: 23 SEPTEMBER 2020

Following the statement from the Prime Minister on Tuesday 22 September, we want to reassure you that we put the safety of all delegates attending training at the RTITB Instructor Academy at the heart of what we do. The government has made clear that training is exempt from the ‘Rule of 6’ and should continue in a COVID-secure manner. Read more here.

The transport and logistics sector provides an absolutely essential service and are clearly identified as key workers, so training is still extremely important so that we all remain safe.  We will be running all of our courses, including Lift Truck and Driver CPC instructor courses for a maximum of 6 delegates, and LGV Instructor/Assessor courses on a 1:1 basis. Yardshunter and Banksman instructor courses can be ran at usual ratios as large portions of the courses take place outside.

We know some of you may want to shield or reduce risk for your teams where possible, therefore as well as our traditional in-person courses, we will be running full Driver CPC instructor courses on a remote basis and providing remote theory training for LGV assessor, instructor and fleet instructor courses as well as lift truck instructor. If you would like to know more about our remote courses please call us on 01952 520214 or contact us

We thank you all for your continued support and patience throughout these highly unusual circumstances.

UPDATED: 14 SEPTEMBER 2020

In recent weeks we have seen a much higher than usual level of phone calls to the RTITB Instructor Academy as organisations resume training.  As we continue to work with a reduced team, this may mean that on some occasions your call to the Academy will be directed to an answerphone. However, our team members are doing everything they can to respond to all enquiries and calls in as timely manner as is currently possible.

The Academy team is committed to responding to voicemails within 4 hours, and any email enquiries should receive an answer within a maximum of 4 working days (although often much sooner!).

We know these small delays in reaching us may be inconvenient at times, but please rest assured that our team is here for you, working hard to provide a high level of support as we all adapt to ongoing changes and challenges.  Should you have any questions or feedback, please do contact us. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding.
