HOW DOES AN EXPRESS DELIVERY OPERATIVE EPA WORK?

Every apprenticeship has an End-Point Assessment (EPA) plan which sets out the specific assessment Gateway requirements for that standard, which must be met before an apprentice can take an EPA.

The Express Delivery Operative (ST0103) Level 2 EPA consists of three parts and covers knowledge of Technical Operations, Finance, Safety and Contingencies. It includes:

    • A multiple-choice test (paper or online) which takes about 45 minutes
    • A role simulation which is based on a typical operational duty in express delivery and takes 40 minutes, testing skills and behaviours.
    • A professional discussion lasting 40 minutes. The RTITB Assessor will ask questions about understanding of the job role, duties and responsibilities, specific parts of the training received, opinions about the training received and the behaviours needed in the job role.

RTITB is a registered End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) and is recognised by Government regulator Ofqual to deliver EPAs for Supply Chain Warehouse Operative (Level 2).

TAKING THE EPA AND GRADES

The Express Delivery Operative (ST0103) Level 2 EPA will take place on a pre-booked date, time, and site (on the same day or over separate days). Usually, it will take place in the apprentice’s usual workplace, though parts may be in a classroom and/or at a Training Provider’s premises. The EPA provides a robust process to ensure a consistent outcome and the apprentice will achieve a grade of a pass or distinction.

WHAT IS THE EXPRESS DELIVERY OPERATIVE APPRENTICESHIP STANDARD (LEVEL 2)?

The Express Delivery Operative Apprenticeship Standard (Level 2) develops the skills an operative needs to provide deliveries and collections to businesses and homes. Apprentices typically learn how to use the relevant equipment and software to manage their working day to help improve productivity and performance. It is typically a 12 month apprenticeship.

Topics may include delivery concepts, care of perishable items, collections and returns, reverse logistics, geographic knowledge and use of navigational tools, customer service, health and safety procedures and more.

After completing the apprenticeship, staff will be able to carry out express delivery roles effectively, with a pathway to progress their career in the transport and logistics sector.
